Description
Type: Remote Volunteer
Time Commitment: Approximately 10 hours per month
Reports to: Marketing Working Group Chair
Role Description
Travel Unity is looking for a tech-savvy volunteer to help us reduce repetitive marketing work and build simple, sustainable systems our team can continue using.
Rather than asking you to determine our overall marketing strategy, we will identify the workflows and outcomes we need. You will help translate those requirements into practical automations using available technology and tools.
Initial priorities may include automating social scheduling and developing useful Mailchimp workflows so that existing content can continue reaching audiences without requiring staff to manually manage every touchpoint.
Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
- Review defined marketing workflows and identify practical opportunities for automation.
- Help configure an automated social scheduling platform.
- Create or improve repeatable social scheduling workflows.
- Help configure simple Mailchimp automations and sequences.
- Set up triggers, tags, audience segments, or other workflow elements based on provided requirements.
- Test automations before implementation.
- Troubleshoot workflow issues.
- Document how each automation works so future staff and volunteers can maintain it.
- Recommend adjustments when a requested workflow cannot be implemented effectively with the available tools.
- Help create repeatable systems rather than one-off fixes.
Experience & Skills
We are looking for someone who has:
- Tech-savvy skills and short learning curves around technology.
- Experience building marketing automations or digital workflows.
- Experience with marketing platforms such as MailChimp or similar, social media tools, etc.
- Ability to translate an idea and implement it within a system.
- Strong troubleshooting and attention-to-detail skills.
- Ability to document processes clearly for nontechnical users.
- Comfort testing work before launch.
- Experience with integrations or tools such as Make is helpful but not required.
Tools
Tools may include:
- Mailchimp
- An automated social scheduling platform
- Google Workspace and spreadsheets
- ChatGPT
- Other integration or automation tools when appropriate
About Travel Unity
Travel Unity is a nonprofit organization working to make the world of travel welcoming for all people. We guide the travel industry in putting inclusive practices into action through education, professional development, organizational development, career exploration, and community building.
Our work helps tourism professionals move from intention to action—with practical guidance, stronger professional networks, diverse perspectives, and approaches that can be applied and measured. We also create pathways for individuals, especially underrepresented youth, to explore careers and opportunities in travel.
Our core values are Travel, Adaptability, Inclusion, Candor, and Impact. We believe meaningful inclusion requires practical action, diverse voices, high standards, and demonstrable results.
How We Work
Travel Unity will provide direction, source materials, deadlines, and a project brief so you know what needs to be accomplished.
We do expect you to bring skill and care to the execution of that work. That means following instructions, asking questions when something is unclear, checking your work for accuracy, meeting agreed deadlines, and flagging problems rather than guessing. Public-facing marketing will be reviewed before publication.
