    Introducing the CHAMPIONS Program

    (Community Helpers Assisting Mature Persons In Our Neighborhood)

    This unique program connects isolated older adults with compassionate CHAMPION volunteers who provide companionship and support through friendly in-person visits and regular care calls. Volunteers are thoughtfully matched with seniors based on shared interests to foster genuine, lasting connections.

    CHAMPION Orientation Meeting will be hosted at Lakeview Senior Center 20 Lake Road Irvine, CA 92604

    Date: Wednesday September 9th, 2026

    Time: 1:00-2:30 p.m.

    Program Description:

    • Enrich lives by volunteering to become a Community Helper Assisting Mature Persons to provide support & companionship to Irvine’s more isolated older adults

    Duties:

    • Making home visitations and phone calls, providing transportation to appointments, assisting with shopping or errands, acquainting them with services and programs available through Irvine Older Adult Services
    • Accompanying them to a social engagement such as lunch.

    Skills, Abilities and Knowledge:

    • Friendly outgoing personality
    • Good communication skills
    • Knowledge of what to do in an emergency

    Requirements:

    • Training: Complete 5-week training course to be held Wednesdays between September 23-October 21, 1-2:30 p.m.
    • Background Check
    • Provide proof of current driver’s license & auto insurance card
    • Attend monthly CHAMPION Meetings
    • One year minimum commitment
    • Desire to assist older adults
    • Ability to take a caring non-judgmental approach to situations
    • Interview required with Staff Program Lead
    • Maintain contact with your clients (Schedule to be determined)
    • Provide regular reports to your assigned Case Manager
