Do you love pickleball and want to make a meaningful impact to your local community? Special Olympics Mecklenburg County is looking for passionate, dedicated and knowledgable volunteers to join us as pickleball coaches and assistant coaches for local Special Olympics athletes.
As a Special Olympics pickleball coach, you will help local athletes learn and improve their pickleball skills by bringing game knowledge, enthusiasm, commitment, and a positive attitude to each practice, event and competition. You will meaningfully enrich the lives of our athletes in life-changing ways by building physical and social skills and instilling self-confidence.
If you're a knowledgable pickleball player and have a few extra hours each month to help local intellectually disabled athletes learn, compete, grow and have fun, this is the opportunity for you!
Our goal is to begin a weekly practice at a local pickleball court where athletes can learn and develop skills.
Location: The Serve Pickleball + Kitchen - Cornelius, NC
Practice Times: Mondays, 6pm - 8pm beginning September 14th - November 9th
Only pickleball knowledge required, we provide the training you need to be a successful coach!
What does coaching look like?
- Approximately 8 weeks of practice (typically one 1-hour practice each week)
- One weekend tournament in November at the Special Olympics North Carolina Fall Tournament
- Coach on your own, with a co-coach, or bring an assistant—whatever works best for you!
- This is a 100% volunteer position, but coaches are truly the heart of our program. Because of volunteers like you, our athletes have the opportunity to compete, build confidence, make friends, and achieve incredible goals.
- The best part? You never pay for anything.Wayne County Special Olympics provides all equipment, uniforms, coaching shirts, and supplies, and we cover travel expenses for state-level competitions.
All coaches must be at least 18 years old to be a certified coach.
