Who We Are
Community Literature Initiative is a non-profit organization dedicated to teaching emerging underserved writers how to write and publish books. The CLI course is a 10-month (September to June) training program to refine works-in-progress into finalized manuscripts ready for publication. At the conclusion of our program, all students emerge knowledgeable aspiring published authors!
Position Description
CLI is currently searching for a dynamic Publishing Class Manager to join our team and play a pivotal role in overseeing the onboarding and management of students in our Publishing Class. The ideal candidate for this position will be an exceptionally organized and communicative individual, with a strong commitment to fostering a positive learning environment. The successful candidate will either possess prior experience with project management tools or be eager to learn and adapt to them. Job Purpose
The Publishing Class Manager (PCM) is a crucial member of our team, responsible for overseeing the smooth operation of our Publishing Class program. The PCM acts as a primary point of contact and liaison for teachers, students, and guest lecturers, ensuring seamless communication and coordination. This role involves managing administrative tasks, supporting event planning, and fostering a collaborative learning environment.

Duties and Responsibilities
Teacher and Student Liaison:
- Act as the point of contact for teachers and guest lecturers.
- Book guest lectures and coordinate schedules.
- Send out weekly newsletters to students about announcements and upcoming events.
- Coordinate and/or lead monthly faculty meetings.
Student Management:
- Track and follow up on student tuition payments.
- Manage incoming student materials, including emailing schedules and scheduling one-on-one meetings.
- Add students to the teacher’s BAAG report and ensure access to manuscripts.
- Review Google doc manuscripts and manage the status of new student textbook materials.
- Mail out new student materials.
- Send out podcasts/videos for students.
Administrative Support:
- Update flyer templates in Canva.
- Schedule and occasionally host special sessions.
- Plan and support the culmination events for each chapter.
- Support the Executive Director in planning the annual Beach City Writer's Conference.
- Maintain polite and professional communication via phone, email, and mail.
Event Coordination:
- Help plan and execute the annual Beach City Writers Conference.
- Support planning and coordination of special sessions and chapter culmination events.
Team Collaboration:
- Attend weekly staff meetings on Mondays.
Qualifications
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in using Google Workspace, Canva, and other relevant software.
- Ability to manage schedules, track payments, and coordinate events.
- A proactive and problem-solving attitude.
- Experience in education, nonprofit, or literary fields is a plus.
- Interest in literature, writing, and promoting diverse voices.
- Proactive approach to identify and address issues or challenges that may arise during the course of the publishing class.
- Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with students, instructors, and colleagues is crucial for the smooth operation of the class.
- Prior experience with project management tools such as Asana is a plus but a willingness to learn and adapt to such tools is also acceptable
- Ability to help coordinate and conduct weekly team meetings
Working Location
Hybrid - The PCM position with CLI offers a flexible work environment that blends in-person and remote work opportunities. The PCM will be required to come into Sims Library 4-5 days a week and cannot work from home. Some weekends are needed for CLI special events.
