    Description

    Volunteer Life Skills Instructors Needed

Help young adults build the skills, confidence, and knowledge they need to move toward greater stability and independence.

DC Doors is seeking engaging and compassionate volunteers to lead or support life skills workshops for young adults ages 18 to 24 at Zoe’s Drop-In Center, Washington, D.C.’s only 24-hour drop-in center for young people experiencing homelessness.

Volunteer instructors may facilitate workshops on topics such as:

    • Employment and career readiness
    • Financial literacy and budgeting
    • Housing readiness
    • Health, wellness, and self-care
    • Nutrition on a budget
    • Digital skills
    • Communication and self-advocacy
    • Family and community support

We welcome professionals, educators, community leaders, and individuals with practical experience who can translate their knowledge into accessible, interactive, and encouraging sessions. Previous teaching experience is helpful but not required. Volunteers should be patient, dependable, culturally responsive, and committed to treating every young person with dignity and respect.

Workshops may include group discussions, hands-on activities, demonstrations, résumé assistance, mock interviews, budgeting exercises, or other practical tools participants can use in their daily lives. DC Doors staff will help coordinate workshop topics, scheduling, and participant engagement.

By volunteering, you will do more than teach a class. You will help young adults develop practical skills, recognize their strengths, and take meaningful steps toward employment, housing, wellness, and long-term independence.

Join DC Doors in creating opportunities for young people to learn, grow, and imagine what is possible.
