    Description

    Position Summary

    Direct Service Staff are the backbone of LASH Haven. You will provide hands-on support to shelter residents throughout your shift — ensuring client safety, facilitating daily services, maintaining shelter cleanliness and order, and responding to client needs with compassion and consistency. If you are someone who shows up, stays calm under pressure, and genuinely cares about people — we want you on our team.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Monitor shelter environment throughout assigned shift and ensure client and staff safety at all times
    • Assist with meal service, hygiene distribution, and daily living support for shelter residents
    • Conduct regular room checks and common area inspections to maintain cleanliness and safety standards
    • Support client intake and check-out processes under direction of the Intake Coordinator
    • Document all incidents, behavioral concerns, and significant events in the shift log
    • Enforce shelter rules and behavioral standards with consistency, firmness, and compassion
    • Respond to client crises and de-escalate conflicts using trauma-informed approaches
    • Communicate client needs and concerns to Shelter Manager and Case Managers
    • Assist with supply inventory, distribution tracking, and facility maintenance reporting
    • Attend mandatory staff meetings and training sessions including HMIS orientation

    Qualifications

    • High school diploma or GED required
    • Previous experience in shelter, social services, corrections, healthcare, or related field preferred
    • Ability to work overnight shifts, weekends, and holidays as assigned
    • Strong de-escalation and conflict resolution skills
    • Physical ability to stand, walk, and remain active throughout an 8–10 hour shift
    • CPR/First Aid certification required within 30 days of hire
    • Reliable, punctual, and committed to maintaining consistent attendance
    • Lived experience with homelessness or housing instability welcomed and respected
