    Description

    Who We Are

Unruled Masses is a New York-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit that is building new and dynamic public civic intelligence and direct action infrastructure for peaceful civic engagement. These tools enable ordinary people to expose abuse patterns, map corruption networks and coordinate civic engagement and community building worldwide. We are nonpartisan, guided by evidence, grounded in human rights, and partner-focused to support pro-democratic coalitions. UM seeks to unite people and partners with intelligence, materials and communications to rebuild connected and hopeful communities where institutions are accountable to the people.

    Who You Are

You understand that social media is more than content—it’s community. You are proactive, responsive, and tuned into how audiences engage, react, and grow over time.

You may come from a background in social media, marketing, or digital communications—or be building experience in those areas. You are comfortable interacting with audiences, analyzing performance, and contributing to a growing online presence.

You care about using digital platforms to inform, engage, and mobilize people around meaningful issues.

    What You’ll Do

As a Social Media Engagement & Growth Manager, you will:

    • Manage day-to-day engagement including comments, messages, and interactions
    • Develop and implement strategies to grow audience and reach
    • Monitor and analyze social media performance
    • Identify trends and opportunities to increase engagement
    • Collaborate with content and design teams
    • Optimize content for different platforms (Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, etc.)
    • Maintain a consistent voice aligned with UM’s mission
    • Support campaigns, calls to action, and community engagement efforts

    Exceptional volunteers may:

    • Lead growth strategy across platforms
    • Launch engagement campaigns and initiatives
    • Help define UM’s voice and social media presence
    • Mentor other volunteers in social media best practices

    Ideal Qualifications

    Compensation & Commitment

This is an unpaid volunteer role. We are flexible on time commitments but ask for at least five hours a week to be able to provide any meaningful project / program. Those with higher availability and capability will be considered for team, program, or project leadership opportunities. We are an all-volunteer force. However, as fundraising allows we will need to fill paid positions and will provide first consideration to our volunteer leaders.
