    Description

Hospice Volunteers Needed in the Greater Sacramento Area

Are you a compassionate, caring individual looking to make a meaningful difference?

We are seeking dedicated volunteers to provide Light Touch Therapy as part of our Healing Hands, Healing Hearts program. Healing Hands ~ Healing Hearts seeks to support traditional medical care by providing massage, comfort, and connection for the body, mind, and spirit of the critically, chronically and terminally ill. Light touch therapy is a non-medicinal/non-pharmacological way of enhancing comfort and reducing common end of life symptoms such as pain, nausea, sleep difficulties, isolation, anxiety, fear and despair.

    Light Touch Therapy Details:

    • NOT massage therapy
    • No disrobing, creams, oils or lotions involved
    • Touch Therapy for the Terminally (TTTI)
    • Non-invasive, light touch
    • All contact with the patient is with their approval and occurs with all clothing/linens in place and is very slow, gentle and responsive to individual needs. The goal of the intervention is to provide enhanced lymphatic drainage, comfort and rest.
    • The goal of this service is to augment comfort and relaxation, to help bring relief from the pain, isolation, anxiety, and despair suffered by a very special population of people among us. To create a more human connection into their lives by offering many levels of healing to the body, mind, and spirit, in order to restore a client's hope, joy, and dignity.
    • Each session is about 45 min-1 hour

    Commitment and Flexibility:

    • Visits are scheduled to work with your availability and the patient's/facility's needs.
    • You will be matched with a patient or family within an acceptable distance from your home.
    • We request a one-year commitment of 100 volunteer hours (approximately 2 hours per week) and attendance at a minimum of 3 volunteer meetings per year.

Requirements & Training (Provided Free of Charge): Must Complete within 90 days of Onboarding Start Date

    • Successful completion of a background check and a two-step TB test.
    • Completion of 8 hours of State-mandated online hospice training and Light Touch Therapy Training.
    • Current California Driver's License or ID, proof of auto insurance, and availability of an operating motor vehicle.

    • Join us and bring comfort and dignity to those at the end of life’s journey. If you are ready to use your empathy and skills to serve, we welcome you to our team.
