    Please Note: Volunteer positions are temporary and the length of your volunteer term can be anywhere from 3 weeks to 1 year. You must be at least 21 years old to be a volunteer with us.

    Organization Overview

    The Tanzanian Children's Fund (TCF) works to eliminate generational poverty in rural northern Tanzania by ensuring that the children and families in this region have access to all of the care and services they need to lead healthy, secure, and fulfilling lives. Our work falls into 4 key program areas: Education, Health, Home and Family, and Economic Opportunity. You will be supporting activities in with the Rift Valley Women's Group (RVWG), a women's handicraft collective that gives women in our community the practical skills, business acumen, and supportive network that they need to advance themselves economically.

    Position Overview

    The Digital Media & Social Content Volunteer supports the Rift Valley Women’s Group (RVWG), a collective of 13 women artisans in Tanzania who create handmade textiles and artisanal goods. This role focuses on documenting the women’s work, daily processes, and community impact through thoughtful photography, videography, and digital storytelling.

    Working closely with RVWG leadership and partners, the volunteer will help strengthen the group’s online presence and visual identity across Instagram, Facebook, and other digital platforms. The goal is to share the story of RVWG consistently, professionally, and respectfully—highlighting craftsmanship, empowerment, and cultural heritage while increasing engagement with supporters and potential customers worldwide.

    Ideal Background & Skills

    • Interest or background in communications, digital media, photography, videography, or social media
    • Experience creating visual and written digital content (photos, short videos, captions, posts)
    • Familiarity with Instagram, Facebook, and basic social media best practices
    • Strong English communication skills (written and verbal)
    • Creative, proactive, organized, and able to work independently
    • Comfortable photographing and filming artisans and staff respectfully and ethically
    • Interest in women-led initiatives, fair trade, or artisan-based work
    • Basic understanding of content planning, branding, or analytics is a plus

    Core Expectations

    • Assist in documenting the daily work, products, and stories of RVWG artisans
    • Support growth and engagement on RVWG’s social media platforms
    • Create high-quality content that reflects RVWG’s mission, values, and craftsmanship
    • Maintain organized digital archives of photos, videos, and design assets
    • Work respectfully with artisans and community members while documenting their work

    Primary Responsibilities

    1. Content Creation & Documentation
      • Capture photos and short videos of artisans creating textiles and handmade goods
      • Document workshops, production processes, group meetings, and special moments
      • Photograph finished products for digital use, marketing, and catalog design
      • Write captions or short stories that highlight the women, their skills, and their impact
      • Ensure content is culturally respectful and aligns with ethical storytelling practices
    2. Social Media Support
      • Assist with posting content to Instagram and Facebook
      • Help maintain a consistent posting schedule to increase visibility and engagement
      • Suggest creative content ideas (behind-the-scenes, product features, artisan spotlights)
      • Track basic engagement metrics (likes, comments, shares, reach) and share insights
    3. Photography, Videography & Catalog Support
      • Support product photography for online use and printed or digital catalogs
      • Assist with basic layout or content preparation for product catalogs or lookbooks
      • Organize visual assets for easy access by RVWG and partner organizations
    4. Organization & Archiving
      • Maintain well-organized digital folders for photos, videos, and design materials
      • Label and tag content for future marketing, fundraising, and promotional use
      • Ensure all media follows RVWG guidelines and respects artisan privacy

    Impact of the Role

    This volunteer plays a key role in amplifying the voices and talents of the Rift Valley Women’s Group. By creating and organizing compelling digital content, the volunteer helps showcase the artisans’ craftsmanship, support income-generating opportunities, and expand RVWG’s reach to global audiences. The work directly contributes to brand visibility, customer engagement, and long-term sustainability for this women-led initiative.
