    Description

About the Role The FACTS Initiative is seeking creative, strategically minded communications professionals to join our Public Relations Committee.

Please note: This is strictly an advisory and governance role, not an operational staff position. You will not be expected to execute daily marketing tasks, write daily social media posts, or handle day-to-day operations. Instead, you will work collaboratively with the committee to offer high-level guidance, review communications policies, and provide strategic recommendations to uphold our brand integrity.

Serving on a committee is an excellent way to use your professional skills for community impact. For volunteers interested in long-term leadership, committee service is also a great pathway to future roles on our Board of Directors!

What You Will Do (Governance & Oversight)

    • Strategic Communications: Collaborate with the committee to advise the board and staff on PR strategies that enhance the organization’s visibility, engagement, and reputation.
    • Media Relations & Crisis Management: Advise on press releases, media inquiries, and responses to press-related crises. Help structure guidelines for media interaction to ensure all communications reflect the organization’s values.
    • Brand Management: Review and guide brand consistency across all communications, marketing efforts, and advertising platforms. Help strategize public relations events and community outreach programs.
    • Policy & Compliance: Recommend changes to organizational policies or procedures that may impact the agency’s public image, ensuring we maintain a consistent and positive community presence.
    • Collaborative Advisement: Assist the committee lead (the Public Relations Officer) in tracking emerging PR trends and educating the board and staff on effective communication techniques.

    Who We Are Looking For

    • Professionals with proven experience in media relations, public relations, or strategic communications (ideally within a nonprofit or social impact organization).
    • Strategic thinkers with expertise in social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter) from a high-level branding perspective.
    • Creative individuals with the ability to develop compelling communication strategies that resonate with diverse audiences.
    • Excellent communicators with a strong understanding of crisis communication, media management, and nonprofit branding.

    Time Commitment

    • Approximately 1 to 2 hours per week.
    • Attendance and active participation in regular committee meetings.
    • Occasional additional time may be required during major media events, crises, or large-scale PR campaigns.

Why Join Us? The Public Relations Committee plays a critical role in shaping the public perception of The FACTS Initiative. By guiding our media relations and strategic communications, you will directly support our long-term success by building the visibility, trust, and credibility needed to provide trauma-informed care to vulnerable children and families.
