    Description

    Assistant to the General Director

Museum of Reclaimed Urban Space (MoRUS) is searching for a qualified individual to become the Assistant to our Executive Director. This position provides an opportunity to learn nonprofit management through participating in the inner workings of a small museum and through acting as a crucial member of our administrative team. You will also gain exposure to housing activism and community gardens in New York City.

The Museum of Reclaimed Urban Space (MoRUS) is a living archive of the Lower East Side's squats and gardens. Located in the storefront of a historic building in the East Village of New York, it displays materials such as photographs, posters, zines, underground newspapers, comics, banners and buttons that show how local residents cleaned up vacant lots and buildings in the area, and made them organizing spaces for the community. The museum also offers three daily tours, which lead participants to the East Village's most legendary community gardens, squats and sites of social change, and explain their compelling and rich histories.

This part-time (20 hours per week) unpaid internship position will assist the Executive Director with the day-to-day operations of the museum. This assistant is crucial to the continued functioning of MoRUS, and acts as a backbone support to the organization.

    Projects include:

    - Grant writing

    - Quality improvement projects

    - Operations

    - Museum management

    - Outreach

    - Assist Director with financial and budget planning

    - Assist Director with e-mails and correspondence

    - Assist with tours when needed

We are looking for someone who is an excellent writer, who demonstrates advanced analytical skills, and who is personable. The assistant must be organized, punctual, goal-oriented, demonstrate initiative, able to identify and fill organizational needs, and have an openness to working on a wide variety of projects.

For more information, please visit www.morusnyc.org.

You should be available a minimum of 20 hours per week and able to intern for 3-9 months (although longer is also welcome!)
