    Child Advocate - Virtual Positions

    About Us

Justice for Children is a Houston-based nonprofit dedicated to protecting children from abuse and ensuring their families have access to critical legal and support services. Many of the families we serve are in crisis, with limited financial means and urgent needs. Your help will directly support our mission.

    Overview

Justice for Children is seeking passionate and dedicated volunteers to serve as Child Advocates, working to protect and support children who have been victims of abuse or neglect. As a Child Advocate, you will play a vital role in ensuring that every child’s voice is heard and that their safety, rights, and well-being remain the top priority. This position can be performed from home with flexible hours.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Manage assigned child abuse–related cases with professionalism and compassion.
    • Review and become thoroughly familiar with each assigned case to identify the best course of action.
    • Advocate for child safety and justice through written correspondence, phone calls, and email communication with relevant professionals and agencies.
    • Communicate regularly with social workers, law enforcement, attorneys, judges, educators, and medical and mental health professionals across the U.S. and Canada.
    • Gather, review, and assess case documentation to develop appropriate resolution strategies.
    • Use online research and referral tools to connect clients and callers with appropriate support services.
    • Collaborate with supervisors and follow management directives to ensure effective case handling.
    • Document case activity, calls, and updates in OneNote and maintain complete client confidentiality.
    • Conduct follow-ups with clients to monitor progress and ensure continued support.
    • Participate in community outreach activities to raise awareness and promote child protection efforts.

    Qualifications

    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
    • Empathy, professionalism, and discretion when handling sensitive information.
    • Excellent organizational and time-management abilities.
    • Ability to work independently and follow guidance from supervisors.
    • Basic computer literacy and comfort with Microsoft OneNote and online research tools.
    • Background in social work, psychology, criminal justice, or related fields is helpful but not required.

    Impact

    • As a Child Advocate Volunteer, you will directly contribute to Justice for Children’s mission to protect vulnerable children from abuse and neglect. Your voice and advocacy can help ensure that no child is left unheard and that justice is pursued on their behalf.
