    Description

    Organization: ASCENDtials

Location: San Diego, CA (Farmers Markets, Marina Activations, Retreat Sites)

    Commitment: Flexible; weekends preferred

Compensation: Volunteer (waiver or donation option)

    About the Role

ASCENDtials is building a family‑friendly ecosystem where children can learn, imagine, and feel rooted in culture and community. Our Cultural Storytelling & Children’s Programming Volunteers help create a joyful, safe, and welcoming space for young learners during our farmers market activations, marina events, and one‑day retreats.

This role blends creativity, cultural pride, and gentle guidance — perfect for volunteers who love working with children and believe in the power of story, ritual, and play.

    What You’ll Do

    • Lead or support storytelling sessions featuring global cultural tales, ecological themes, and community values
    • Facilitate creative play activities such as symbolic art, nature crafts, and hands‑on learning
    • Assist with our donation‑based daycare station, ensuring a safe, warm, and inclusive environment
    • Help set up and break down children’s programming areas (mats, books, art supplies, signage)
    • Guide families through interactive cultural stations (hieroglyph writing, seasonal rituals, global traditions)
    • Support snack breaks, gratitude circles, and closing reflections
    • Track volunteer hours through our portal (donation or waiver accepted)

    Who You Are

    • Warm, patient, and naturally great with children
    • Excited about cultural storytelling, ecology, and community education
    • Comfortable engaging families from diverse backgrounds
    • Reliable, communicative, and able to maintain a safe environment
    • Open to learning our branded storytelling style and ecological metaphors

    Why This Matters

Children are the roots of our ecosystem. By offering accessible, culturally rich programming, we help families feel welcomed, supported, and inspired. Volunteers in this role become part of a movement that uplifts community resilience, cultural pride, and ecological awareness.

    What You Gain

    • Experience in youth programming, cultural education, and community engagement
    • Letters of appreciation and documented service hours
    • Training in ASCENDtials’ storytelling framework and ritual‑based programming
    • Opportunities to co‑lead future children’s workshops and seasonal activities

    Instructions:

Our onboarding process is simple and supportive. New volunteers first attend a Monday, Tuesday, or Thursday onboarding session where we help you get fully set up on our platforms using our onboarding template. After that, you’ll join a Wednesday orientation with your team lead to review roles, expectations, and event flow. Once both steps are complete, you’ll be ready to contribute as a remote teammate.
