    Description

    Domestic Violence Survivor Support (Remote)

Operation Safe Escape is seeking a reliable and experienced volunteers to fill the role of domestic violence survivor Support specialist. This role is particularly important to the OSE mission, as it directly supports survivors of domestic violence to perform intake and support functions.

This position will impact the organization by helping us fulfill our core mission of protecting survivors of abuse.

To be successful, an OSE volunteer has a passion for helping others, compassion for survivors of abuse, and dedication in doing whatever we can to help them escape and thrive.

    Volunteer Requirements:

    • Ability to handle email responses to clients, using simple response templates and follow-up
    • Track client communications using an established spreadsheet
    • Monitor on-call inbox monitoring, generally taking shifts one week a month or less depending on caseload. Greater frequencies are available for interested candidates
    • Ability to support survivors of abuse, despite the chaos and unpredictability of survivor-centric work
    • Answer and support clients, as in directly working with those that need basic or advanced security-related information and guidance
    • Willingness to learn and work as part of a team
    • Respect for others and a commitment to equality
    • An ability to dedicate no less than 3-5 hours a week

The following are not required, but highly desired:

    • Experience in one or more security, technology, or safety issues
    • Experience working with survivors of abuse or other vulnerable populations

Volunteers have "reachback" support for complex issues or technical questions. Orientation provides advocacy training, trauma informed care training, and process training is provided.

A background check is required for volunteers. The cost for background checks is paid by OSE.

    About Operation Safe Escape

Operation Safe Escape (OSE) was created in 2016 as a small component of another security-themed nonprofit organization called OSPA. Over time, the anti-domestic violence mission of OSPA grew to become the organization's sole purpose and we reformed as OSE. Since that time, we've helped nearly 4,000 people escape abusive relationships and other dangerous situations, and helped train and support safe houses and shelters all over the world. We don't discriminate based on any characteristic, whether race, national origin or status, sexual orientation, gender and gender expression, age, or any other class.

    Our Values
