    Description

    Quality Assurance (QA) Functional Lead

The ideal applicant for this position has solid experience in QA with the vision for ideal a seasoned QA professional returning after a gap or seeking to build experience to qualify as a functional lead. Equally welcome is a retired professional interested in sharing expertise and helping those entering the field.

KeelWorks is a nonprofit focused on improving employment outcomes for underserved populations. Being a very minimally funded organization leads us to develop many of the systems we use ourselves. This also gives those needing practice a chance to polish skills. This QA Lead role sits at the heart of ensuring that systems in development function correctly. We believe in QA and extend its reach to content development for learning as well.

The position involves leading a virtual volunteer QA team, defining end-to-end test strategies, overseeing multi-layer testing (functional, regression, automation, API/SQL), and acting as the release gatekeeper before platform launches.

The functional lead screens applicants and assigns those he/she accepts, monitors performance and mentors those in need.

Beyond pure technical testing, the role has a strong cross-functional dimension — collaborating with web development and instructional design teams, ensuring WCAG accessibility compliance, and managing defect tracking in tools like GitHub. It's an unpaid volunteer position, but offers meaningful leadership experience, mentorship opportunities, and professional references/LinkedIn recommendations in return.
