After School Clubs Program

Our church has a center that offers after school programs to children. It is called “Norwalk Life Transformation Center”. The programs offered are individual and group piano lessons, help with homework, reading, arts and crafts, sports ( basketball )and are done during the week. We are looking for volunteers to help in these areas. All materials will be provided. High school students who are looking to complete their community service hours are welcomed.

Volunteer Responsibilities

1. Welcome & Check-In

• Greet children and parents
• Sign students in and out
• Verify authorized pickup adults
• Help new families feel welcome
• Answer basic questions

1. Homework

• Assist with homework and reading
• Encourage problem-solving without giving answers
• Help students stay focused
• Celebrate effort and progress

1. Arts and crafts

• Lead arts and crafts projects
• Organize STEM activities
• Teach games and group activities
• Prepare materials before each session
• Clean up afterward

1. Sports

• Lead warm-ups and stretching
• Teach basic sports skills
• Supervise games
• Promote teamwork and good sportsmanship
• Ensure everyone participates safely

1. Music or Piano

• Help children find their place in music
• Assist with keyboard setup
• Encourage practice
• Help beginners with finger positions and rhythm
• Support performances or recitals

1. Snack

• Prepare and distribute healthy snacks
• Monitor food allergies
• Maintain cleanliness and sanitation
• Clean eating areas

1. Safety & Supervision

• Monitor children during activities
• Supervise transitions between activities
• Escort children to the restroom if your program’s policies require it
• Report injuries or concerns immediately
• Know emergency procedures

1. Mentor & Encourage

• Build positive relationships with children
• Encourage kindness, respect, and responsibility
• Help resolve minor conflicts calmly
• Recognize children who are improving or showing leadership

1. Administrative Support

• Take attendance
• Organize supplies
• Prepare activity packets
• Help with parent communication
• Assist with event planning

1. Cleanup & Setup

• Arrange tables and chairs
• Set up equipment
• Store supplies properly
• Leave the facility clean and organized

Qualifications for Volunteers

Volunteers should:

• Enjoy working with children
• Be dependable and punctual
• Communicate respectfully with children and parents
• Follow program rules and safety procedures
• If 18 and above, complete any required background checks and child safety training according to our organization’s policies and state requirements
