    Description

About IELLP: We are a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering the residents of San Bernardino and Riverside County by writing articles that analyze policy, criminal justice issues, and immigration rights, while equipping our people with the tools necessary to assert their rights, influence change, and protect themselves & their families.

As a Legislative Tracking Assistant with the IELLP, you will be joining a nonprofit organization full of like-minded individuals who want to help the community while fueling their passion for justice and gaining practical skills in the process. You will help launch and directly support a first-of-its-kind community policy report (CPR) that will keep Inland Empire residents informed about policies, their effects, and how to make their voices heard.

What is our Community Policy Report?

The Inland Empire Legal Literacy Project's Community Policy Report (CPR) is a quarterly report that will track, analyze, and explain local, state, and federal policies that affect the residents of the Inland Empire. This report will translate complex legislative actions (e.g. amendments, trailer bills, urgency clauses) into plain language for the layperson to understand.

There are three keys to the CPR.

    1. Explaining the facts of the proposed bill.
    2. Analyzing & explaining the effects on the Inland Empire
    3. Allowing residents to formulate their own opinions and showing them how to make their voices heard.

Due to the one-of-a-kind nature and amount of policies to cover with the CPR, we are in need of dedicated team members who will help launch this project.

    Responsibilities:

    • Assist with researching, monitoring, and analyzing proposed and existing policy.
    • Track proposed bills, amendments, and policy changes across local, state, and federal levels.
    • Assist with the analysis of policies and reporting on the potential impacts on the Inland Empire
    • Assist with the preparation of objective reports, memos, and briefs for the public.
    • Assist with the production of stakeholder analyses to identify key stakeholders for the bills being tracked.

    Ideal Candidate:

    • Passion for translating legal jargon and breaking down complex systems.
    • Familiar with the administrative and procedural side of lawmaking.
    • Strong reading, writing, critical thinking, and analytical skills.
    • Bachelor's degree in Political Science, Public Affairs, Economics, Public Policy, Legal Studies, Communications, English, or related field.

    What you’ll gain:

    • Develop advanced skills in policy analysis, legislative tracking, and evaluating the social, economic, and community impacts of public policy.
    • Gain practical experience researching and analyzing real-world policy issues at the local, state, and federal levels.
    • Gain exposure to stakeholder mapping and analysis, learning how policymakers, advocacy groups, community organizations, and the public interact in the policy process.
    • Opportunities for promotion within the IELLP CPR.
    • Opportunities for compensation, once available.
    • School credit or letter of recommendation (if applicable).
