Volunteer Opportunity: Music & Conversation Companion in Federal Way, WA

Location: Federal Way Senior Center or other community location

Participant Profile:

We’re seeking a compassionate volunteer to spend time with a wonderful gentleman who is cheerful, oriented, and eager to engage. He has a great sense of humor and a rich life story, including being a former worship leader at his church.

About Him:

• Friendly, generous, and loves meaningful conversation
• Uses a wheelchair (can self-propel short distances)
• Experienced a stroke, which makes speech harder to understand—patience and active listening are key
• Loves music! Used to sing at church and play piano
• Enjoys faith-based discussions and creative activities

Volunteer Role:

• Meet him at the Federal Way Senior Center or another agreed location for about an hour weekly (or as your schedule allows)
• Assist with transfers from the Access bus and back
• Engage in conversation, play music, or sing together
• Use YouTube with lyrics for sing-alongs

Ideal Volunteer:

• Patient and understanding communicator
• Enjoys music and singing
• Creative and spontaneous—ready to share joy through music
• A male volunteer of faith would be a perfect match, but all caring individuals are welcome
