    Description

K9 Conservationists has a dual mission with resounding impact on scientific field research both today and in the future. We connect highly trained conservation detection dog teams with scientists to provide solutions to today's challenging conservation projects, while training the future leaders of tomorrow's conservation dog detection teams. In order to fulfill this big mission, we’re seeking two or three dedicated and experienced board members to bring diverse ideas and skill sets to our team. While our conservation detection dog teams travel the world, we specialize in the intermountain west of the US and Latin America. Qualified board members from those regions will be prioritized.

In order to fulfill our mission to provide solutions to challenging conservation projects and provide quality dog handler teams to scientists, we are seeking two or three dedicated and experienced board members to bring diverse ideas and skill sets to our team. While our conservation detection dog teams travel the world, we specialize in the intermountain west of the US and Latin America. Qualified board members from those regions will be prioritized.

We currently have 10 board members with a range of backgrounds and know that adding a few additional board members would help us continue to build our presence in this dynamic field. Duties would include but are not limited to:

      • Serve as an ambassador for K9 Conservations, strengthening relationships with donors, partners, and the broader community, and supporting fundraising efforts where possible.
      • Contribute expertise and time to Board service, including participation in meetings, committees, and task forces, with a willingness to take on leadership roles as appropriate.
      • Make a personally meaningful annual financial contribution, with the expectation that Board members prioritize K9 Conservationists among their top charitable commitments.
      • Participate in donor engagement opportunities, including virtual events and site visits that deepen understanding of K9 Conservationist’s mission and impact.

Board meetings are conducted bimonthly via Zoom, and members are asked to contribute 2-5 hours per month assisting with assigned projects. If you are passionate about our mission and skilled in any of the areas listed below, we would love to talk to you. We’re particularly focused on increasing our development capacity.

    About K9 Conservationists

K9 Conservationists advances conservation research by connecting highly trained conservation detection dog teams with scientists, while building long-term capacity through training, mentorship, and collaboration with emerging handlers and local communities. We train detection dogs to find the data that matters—from scat to invasive species—across diverse landscapes. Our methods are science-backed, humane, and field-tested. With unmatched enthusiasm and accuracy, our dogs turn the messiest parts of conservation into reliable, joyful work. Our education branch offers an 18-module online course, monthly book club, personalized coaching calls, and additional learning resources all designed to empower new data detection dog handlers.
