Remote Volunteer API Solutions Architect — Education Technology

REMOTE VOLUNTEER API SOLUTIONS ARCHITECT — EDUCATION TECHNOLOGY

Help Believe in Me and iLevelUP design secure, maintainable integrations that connect students with education, college, career, scholarship, and life-readiness resources.

    ABOUT THE ROLE

This remote skills-based role supports iLevelUP’s education technology. The API Solutions Architect will assess integration needs, define practical API patterns, and help volunteer developers deliver reliable, privacy-aware services.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Design REST, GraphQL, webhook, or event-driven integration patterns appropriate to program needs.
    • Define API contracts, authentication, authorization, versioning, validation, error handling, logging, and rate limits.
    • Review data flows for privacy, security, reliability, accessibility, and maintainability.
    • Collaborate with product, application, infrastructure, security, data, and technical-support volunteers.
    • Document architecture decisions, interfaces, dependencies, test strategies, and operational guidance.
    • Recommend cost-conscious tools and incremental improvements suitable for a nonprofit volunteer team.

    IDEAL EXPERIENCE

API architecture, backend engineering, systems integration, cloud services, identity, security, data modeling, or DevOps. Experience explaining technical tradeoffs and producing clear documentation is essential.

    TIME AND LOCATION

Remote and flexible, approximately 2–3 hours per week, with ongoing or project-based participation.

    IMPACT AND SUPPORT

Your work will help educational resources operate securely and reliably for students and first-generation learners. Volunteers receive orientation, defined priorities, collaboration tools, and access to program and technical leaders.
