Make a Difference in the Lives of Hospice Patients

Make a Meaningful Difference: Become a Hospice Volunteer

Whether you're drawn to comforting patients directly or prefer to support care behind the scenes, your time and compassion can make a lasting impact. We invite you to join a dedicated group of caregivers who serve as vital members of our hospice team.

Star Hospice—a proud member of the LHC Group family—has been serving Lake, Cook, and McHenry Counties for over 40 years. We are honored to be a Level 4 partner in the We Honor Veterans program, reflecting our deep commitment to those who’ve served.

Hospice volunteers often share that supporting patients and families during life’s most vulnerable moments is profoundly meaningful. It’s a chance to offer comfort, connection, and dignity when it matters most.

    Why Volunteer with Star Hospice?

    1. Make a real difference – in your life and in the lives of others.
    2. Join a compassionate community – and a team dedicated to helping those facing life’s most difficult circumstances.
    3. Grow personally and professionally – through meaningful experiences and connections.
    4. Enjoy flexibility – choose your own schedule and participate in activities that match your interests and passions.

    What Do Hospice Volunteers Do?

Volunteers provide non-clinical companionship and emotional support through activities such as:

    • Friendly conversations and storytelling
    • Reading to patients or writing letters and cards
    • Watching TV or movies together
    • Playing games like cards
    • Listening to music
    • Simply being present to offer comfort
    • Providing respite time for family caregivers
