Description
The Washington West African Center is launching the SOUGOU Market, a monthly community market offering high‑quality donated household items, electronics, clothing, furniture, and more at affordable prices. We are preparing for our first market in mid/late March and seeking a volunteer to help coordinate and oversee this new initiative.
Responsibilities include:
- Leading outreach and marketing efforts over a 6–8 week period, including flyers, social media, newsletters, community events, and word‑of‑mouth engagement.
- Supporting community outreach using existing promotional materials (flyer and video) and helping develop additional materials as needed.
- Assisting with donation intake and helping maintain an organized inventory of all donated items.
- Helping recruit and coordinate volunteers for market setup, pricing, display, customer support, and breakdown.
- Ensuring smooth logistics and a successful launch of the first SOUGOU Market weekend.
Ideal volunteers: organized, proactive, community‑minded, and comfortable coordinating multiple moving parts. Experience in outreach, marketing, or event coordination is helpful but not required.
This role directly supports local families by increasing access to affordable goods and strengthening community connections.
