Finish Carpenter

Position: Volunteer Finish Carpenter

Department: Construction

Reports To: Construction Staff / Site Supervisor

Location: Habitat for Humanity of Long Island construction sites in Suffolk County

Position Overview

Habitat for Humanity of Long Island is seeking skilled Finish Carpenter Volunteers to help complete the interior and exterior details that turn a Habitat house into a finished home. Finish carpenters play an important role in creating safe, functional, and beautiful homes for Habitat partner families.

Responsibilities

• Install interior and exterior trim, molding, baseboards, and casing.
• Install doors, door frames, and hardware as needed.
• Assist with installation of cabinetry and other millwork.
• Complete finish carpentry, including measuring, cutting, fitting, and fastening materials.
• Perform punch-list and detail work to help prepare homes for completion.
• Read and follow construction plans and site instructions.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
• Work alongside Habitat staff, volunteers, and other skilled trades.
• Share knowledge and demonstrate proper construction techniques to less-experienced volunteers when appropriate.
• Follow all Habitat for Humanity safety policies and job-site procedures.

Qualifications & Skills

• Previous finish carpentry experience preferred.
• Ability to accurately measure, cut, fit, and install finish materials.
• Familiarity with common hand and power tools.
• Ability to read basic construction plans and measurements.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
• Ability to work safely and cooperatively as part of a volunteer construction team.
• Reliable, dependable, and willing to work in a variety of residential construction environments.

Physical Requirements

Volunteers should be comfortable standing, bending, kneeling, climbing ladders, lifting and carrying materials, and performing repetitive construction tasks. Reasonable accommodations may be available.

Time Commitment

Volunteer opportunities are available based on current construction schedules and project needs. Volunteers may participate as their availability allows, with recurring opportunities available for those interested in becoming regular members of the construction team.
