    Description

    Heroes Read Program (Literacy opportunity)

    Heroes Read Program:

    Why: To foster a love for reading while building a student-mentor relationship. What: Volunteer to read with a WCPSS (Wake County Public School System) student 30 minutes a week.

    • Read one-on-one with Kindergarten-3rd grade students
    • A time for students to have fun with books!
    • "Heroes Read" students receive a book to take home each week
    • Volunteer training is provided

    Where: Smith Magnet Elementary School's Heroes Read Room

    When: October - May of the current school year

    • During school hours
    • "Heroes Read" takes place daily (Monday-Friday)
    • Time commitment: 30-60 minutes per week (depending on availability)
    • Volunteers accepted anytime!

    5 shifts available:

    • This is a YEARLONG commitment: Read one on one with K-2 students one day a week, help foster the love of reading, training provided, choose your day: 10:50 to 11:30 EST
    • This is a YEARLONG commitment: Read one on one with K-2 students one day a week, help foster the love of reading, training provided, choose your day: 12:30 to 1:05 EST
    • This is a YEARLONG commitment: Read one on one with K-2 students one day a week, help foster the love of reading, training provided, choose your day: 1:00 to 1:30 EST
    • This is a YEARLONG commitment: Read one on one with K-2 students one day a week, help foster the love of reading, training provided, choose your day: 2:00-2:30
    • This is a YEARLONG commitment: Read one on one with K-2 students one day a week, help foster the love of reading, training provided, choose your day: 2:30-3:00
