Are you passionate about the arts and interested in helping an arts nonprofit build a strong organizational foundation? Vika Visual Arts Association invites you to join our board as Secretary, supporting our mission to empower and nurture emerging artists in our community.

    About Us:

Vika Visual Arts Association is an arts nonprofit dedicated to supporting emerging artists by providing the resources, opportunities, and exposure they need to thrive. We believe the arts are essential to a vibrant, inclusive community, and we are committed to fostering creativity and expanding opportunities for local artists.

    About the Role:

The Secretary plays an important role in supporting the organization’s governance, communication, and effective board operations. Working collaboratively with the board and Executive Director, the Secretary helps maintain accurate board records, document meeting discussions and decisions, and ensure important organizational information is organized and accessible.

    What We’re Looking For:

We welcome candidates who are passionate about the arts, committed to our mission, and interested in helping a nonprofit thrive. Experience in nonprofit governance, recordkeeping, or administrative support is preferred but not required. We encourage individuals with strong organizational skills, attention to detail, clear communication, and a willingness to learn to apply.

    Ideal candidates will bring:

    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
    • Clear written communication and the ability to accurately document discussions and decisions.
    • An interest in nonprofit governance, board operations, and organizational accountability.
    • A collaborative approach to board service and decision-making.
    • A commitment to maintaining accurate records and supporting effective communication.

Prior board or nonprofit experience is a plus, but not required. A willingness to support the organization’s governance and mission is what matters most.

    Why Join Our Board?

As Secretary, you’ll help shape the future of an organization that creates meaningful opportunities for emerging artists. You’ll contribute to effective board governance, help maintain organizational continuity and accountability, and work alongside a dedicated team committed to making the arts more accessible and impactful in our community.

    Commitment:

    • Attend bi-monthly board meetings (60 minutes each) which are a mix of both virtual and in person
    • Prepare and maintain accurate board meeting minutes, board calendar, meeting notices and agendas, and other organizational records
    • Help track board decisions, action items, and governance documents
    • Contribute to strategic planning and organizational decision-making.
    • Support events and initiatives that advance our mission.
    • Three-year term
    • Minimum age: 21
    • DC, MD, or VA residency preferred but not required.
    • Experience using Google Workspace and virtual meeting platforms preferred but not required
