Remote Volunteer IT Infrastructure Architect — Education Technology

REMOTE VOLUNTEER IT INFRASTRUCTURE ARCHITECT — EDUCATION TECHNOLOGY

Help Believe in Me and its iLevelUP education initiative build secure, reliable technology that connects students with college, career, scholarship, and life-readiness resources.

    ABOUT THE ROLE

This remote, skills-based volunteer opportunity supports iLevelUP, a digital education program serving students and first-generation learners. The IT Infrastructure Architect will advise on scalable cloud architecture, operational resilience, security, and cost-effective technology decisions.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Assess the current application infrastructure and document a practical target architecture.
    • Recommend secure, scalable cloud, networking, storage, identity, monitoring, and deployment patterns.
    • Collaborate with application developers, product leaders, security volunteers, and technical support.
    • Improve backup, disaster-recovery, availability, logging, and incident-response readiness.
    • Identify infrastructure risks, technical debt, performance constraints, and cost-saving opportunities.
    • Create diagrams and plain-language documentation that future volunteers can maintain.
    • Apply privacy, accessibility, and security-by-design principles appropriate for youth education technology.

    IDEAL EXPERIENCE

    • Cloud architecture or infrastructure engineering with AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, or comparable platforms.
    • Networking, identity and access management, observability, backups, disaster recovery, and data protection.
    • Infrastructure as code, CI/CD, containers, or serverless systems are helpful.
    • Ability to explain technical tradeoffs to both technical and nontechnical teammates.
    • Commitment to responsible handling of systems that support young people and educational programs.

    TIME AND LOCATION

Remote and flexible, approximately 2–3 hours per week. This is an ongoing advisory and implementation role with projects scoped around volunteer availability.

    IMPACT AND SUPPORT

Your expertise will help make education resources dependable, secure, and available to students. Volunteers receive orientation, defined priorities, collaborative tools, and access to program leadership.
