    Description

    Astoria: Volunteer at Monthly Food Distribution

    1st Monday Monthly at NYCHA Astoria Houses | Help Fight Food Insecurity in Astoria, Queens

    Gotham Food Pantry is looking for dedicated volunteers to assist with our monthly food distribution at NYCHA Astoria Houses. This is a hands-on opportunity to directly support Astoria residents in accessing fresh, free groceries.

    We need 4-5 volunteers the 1st Monday of every month to help set up and operate food pantry services. If you're passionate about food justice and don't mind a little heavy lifting, we’d love to have you join us!

    Volunteer Tasks May Include:

    • Setting up tables and organizing distribution space
    • Unloading and moving food from the delivery truck
    • Sorting and packing produce, dry goods, and shelf-stable items
    • Handing out groceries to pantry patrons with warmth and respect
    • Instructing and organizing patrons for smooth distribution procedures

    Requirements:

    • Must be able to lift 40 lbs
    • Comfortable being on your feet for several hours
    • Able to work well as part of a team
