    Description

    Mentoring Underprivileged Youth

Help Underprivileged Youth to see more opportunities around the Bay Area

City of Dreams is a registered 501c3 organization (#20-0719899) operating in San Francisco. Our mission is to help youth living in low-income housing build brighter futures through mentoring and youth development.

Please note: If you are interested in volunteering, please apply directly on our website! www.cityofdreams.org

    Opportunity:

We welcome both Group Mentors and 1-on-1 Mentors who can have fun with and be role models for our youth participants (ages 8+). Currently ~60 youth enrolled (mainly from the Bayview and Sunnydale areas of the city).

    Time Commitment:

    • Group Mentors are asked to participate at least 1 Saturday a month for one year. Saturday events are usually 2.5-4 hours including lunch.
    • 1-on-1 Mentors are required to meet with their youth mentee twice per month.

    Program Details:

Our flagship Mentorship program facilitates Saturday experiential learning events for our youth, either through field trips or with workshops at a community center in the Bayview.

The events are based on our curriculum of 12 Life Values: 1) love without limits,

    2) responsibility, 3) contribution, 4) self-esteem, 5) teamwork, 6) gratitude, 7) resilience,

    8) integrity, 9) respect, 10) choice, 11) trust, and 12) hope.

All our activities tie in these values and revolve around cultural enrichment, outdoor/environmental education, and community engagement.

Examples of 2018 events: The Circus Center, Kite Festival at the Presidio, The Garden at AT&T Park, Oakland Museum, Biking in Golden Gate Park, Kayaking in Sausalito and Tomales Bay, Intro to Lacrosse Lesson, Cultural Food Tasting
