Volunteer Web Developer

As our volunteer Web Developer, you’ll keep our custom WordPress website secure, reliable and up to date, so donors, volunteers and partners can always find us and give. Your work will directly affect how dependable our online presence is for everyone who supports our mission. Join us and be part of something truly meaningful.

About the Role

Keep our website quietly working. Handle the day-to-day development and maintenance of our custom-built WordPress site, working with our Marketing & Communications Team and our lead website developer. This is a hands-on coding role, not a page-builder role.

Responsibilities

• Fix bugs and troubleshoot routine website issues.
• Make content and field updates, including adding fields staff can edit without touching code.
• Build small improvements within our existing custom theme.
• Test every change in development before it goes to the live site.
• Monitor and troubleshoot forms, donation widgets, email and tracking.
• Escalate larger or higher-risk work to our lead website developer.

Ideal Skills

• Hands-on custom WordPress development with PHP: custom themes or plugins, hooks and filters, and custom post types.
• Developer-level experience with Advanced Custom Fields Pro.
• Experience with Sage/Roots and Blade, or with Laravel and a willingness to learn.
• Comfortable with Git, Composer, npm and a dev → test → live workflow (Pantheon and WP-CLI a plus).
• Secure coding habits and a methodical, patient approach to troubleshooting.
