The Humane Choices Foundation is an Ontario-based nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting and defending the inherent rights of all animals through advocacy, humane education, and ethical action. Our work spans public awareness, educational initiatives, digital engagement, and ethical commerce.

As part of our next phase of growth, we are developing a comprehensive digital platform that will serve as the central hub for our programs, thought leadership, fundraising, and community engagement. We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Website Designer & Digital Platform Specialist (Wix) to lead the design and implementation of this platform.

Role Overview

The Senior Website Designer & Digital Platform Specialist (Volunteer) will be responsible for architecting, designing, and delivering a robust, scalable website using the Wix ecosystem. This role requires a strategic mindset, refined design sensibility, and deep technical fluency within Wix and Wix Studio.

The successful candidate will take ownership of the website from concept to execution, ensuring that it meets professional standards for usability, performance, accessibility, and long-term maintainability, while aligning seamlessly with the Foundation’s mission and brand.

Core Responsibilities

Digital Platform Design & Architecture

• Lead the end-to-end design and build of a sophisticated website using Wix and Wix Studio.
• Architect a clear, intuitive site structure that supports advocacy, education, storytelling, fundraising, and engagement.
• Ensure a cohesive, modern visual identity aligned with organizational branding and values.
• Deliver a fully responsive, mobile-optimized, and accessibility-conscious user experience.

Content, Publishing & Thought Leadership

• Design and implement a blog and news ecosystem to support long-form content, research, and organizational updates.
• Establish templates and workflows that enable non-technical team members to publish and manage content efficiently.
• Optimize layouts for readability, storytelling, and engagement.

E-Commerce, Donations & CRM Integration

• Implement Wix Stores to support ethical merchandise sales and fundraising initiatives.
• Configure donation flows and payment gateways that are secure, intuitive, and donor-friendly.
• Set up and customize Wix CRM (or integrate external CRM systems where appropriate) to manage supporters, donors, volunteers, and partners.
• Design automated workflows for newsletters, acknowledgements, and supporter engagement.

Systems Integration & Optimization

• Integrate third-party tools for email marketing, analytics, and performance tracking as required.
• Apply SEO best practices, performance optimization, and conversion-focused design principles.
• Ensure compliance with privacy, data protection, and accessibility standards relevant to Canadian nonprofits.

Collaboration & Knowledge Transfer

• Collaborate closely with leadership, content creators, designers, and program teams.
• Translate strategic objectives into functional digital solutions.
• Provide documentation, training, and guidance to internal staff for ongoing site maintenance and future enhancements.

Qualifications & ExpertiseRequired

• Advanced expertise with Wix and Wix Studio, demonstrated through a strong portfolio of professional websites.
• Strong command of UX/UI design principles, information architecture, and responsive design.
• Proven experience implementing blogs, e-commerce, CRM systems, and complex site functionality.
• Ability to independently manage a full website build with minimal oversight.
• Exceptional attention to detail and strong communication skills.

Preferred

• Experience designing digital platforms for nonprofits, advocacy organizations, or mission-driven initiatives.
• Familiarity with SEO strategy, content optimization, and analytics within Wix.
• Experience integrating external CRMs, marketing automation tools, or donation platforms.
• Understanding of ethical branding and cause-driven storytelling.
