Description
Restore buildings and teach a trade at the same time. This is where Voices of Variety's prevention work is most visible.
What You'll Do
• Contribute skilled labor on VOV restoration and construction projects
• Work in carpentry, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, roofing, flooring, masonry, concrete, drywall, insulation, painting, landscaping, demolition and cleanup
• Teach and demonstrate your trade to participants learning on site
• Help assess properties and scope the work
Who This Is For
Licensed contractors, journeymen, apprentices, union members, retired tradespeople, handypeople and construction professionals of every trade. Tool donations and equipment loans are equally welcome.
Time Commitment
Project based. Weekdays and weekends available. Chicago and surrounding communities.
Why It Matters
A young person who learns to wire a room can earn a living for life. And the block gets its building back.
About Voices of Variety
Voices of Variety (VOV) is a Chicago-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 2007 by Jasen Brown. Our work is prevention. We create positive outlets — sports, music, the skilled trades, entrepreneurship, mentorship, adventure and community service — so that violence and crime never get their opening.
