Summary
The American Red Cross has more than 30 high school Red Cross Clubs across the Sacramento area, led by dedicated students.
We are seeking adult volunteers who live in or near the Sacramento area, have strong skills working with teenagers, and enjoy supporting and empowering young people as they grow into leaders. The Youth Club Advisor serves as a mentor and resource for assigned Red Cross Clubs, helping student leaders stay engaged, meet goals, and successfully carry out club activities throughout the school year. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about youth development and enjoys encouraging others to succeed.
Responsibilities
- Build positive relationships with student leaders of assigned Red Cross Clubs.
- Provide encouragement, guidance, and support to help clubs achieve their goals.
- Regularly communicate with student leaders through phone calls, text messages, email, and virtual meetings.
- Monitor club progress and help ensure responsibilities and requirements are completed.
- Serve as a resource for questions related to club activities and Red Cross opportunities.
- Attend regional youth events and gatherings (approximately 6–8 per year).
- Work closely with Red Cross staff and other volunteers to support youth engagement efforts.
- Learn and become knowledgeable about Red Cross Club programs, policies, and expectations.
- Use Red Cross systems and databases to track activities, communicate with volunteers, and maintain organization of club information.
Time Commitment
- 1-Year commitment to this volunteer position.
- Approximately 1–3 hours per week.
- About 90% remote.
- Occasional evening and weekend availability to accommodate student volunteer schedules.
- Attend approximately 6–8 in-person regional youth events each year.
Qualifications
- Experience working with, mentoring, or leading teenagers and young adults.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds and experiences.
- Comfortable communicating through phone, text, email, and video conferencing.
- Organized, dependable, and able to work independently.
- Willingness to learn and use Red Cross volunteer management systems.
- Enthusiasm for supporting youth leadership and volunteer service.
- Ability to collaborate with Red Cross staff, volunteers, and community partners.
