    Description

Volunteer at Award-Winning Theatre and Mentor Children - April 13 - May 18

Make a meaningful and tangible impact on the lives of New York City's homeless and at-risk youth by becoming a volunteer with The Actors Theatre Workshop’s award-winning after-school theatre and education program, Builders of the New World (BNW), for children experiencing homelessness, on the spectrum, or otherwise economically disadvantaged.

To learn more about the program and how you can help and to get involved, come for one of the Information and Interview Sessions at the Actors Theatre Workshop (ATW). See dates below.

As a BNW Volunteer, you will be trained as a program assistant to Thurman E. Scott, the Artistic Director, Executive Producer, and Founder of the Actors Theatre Workshop. An award-winning actor, director, writer, and master teacher of acting, Mr. Scott has dedicated his life to helping others fulfill their unique creative potential.

Our mission at The Actors Theatre Workshop is to examine the conflicts we face as a society and provide the community with effective ways to address the important issues of the day. We created The Builders of the New World program 31 years ago in fulfillment of this mission. We provide the children with hot, nutritious meals, educational training and an opportunity to express themselves. We teach them exercises to open their imaginations and ask them to draw and write about their visions for a hopeful future in which they are contributing and productive citizens. BNW guides them to make educational decisions today that will prepare them to meet the challenges of tomorrow. Most importantly, the children perform their original creations for an appreciative and loving audience of adults - - the validation and support they receive in the loving and safe environment we provide has a tremendously positive impact on the children’s lives.

The Actors Theatre Workshop is located at 145 West 28th Street, 3rd Floor in Chelsea. 3Fl. (between 6th & 7th Aves) NYC.

Please RSVP for the March 23rd Information and Interview Session by emailing outreach@actorstheatreworkshop.com. To make the process more efficient, please complete our BNW Volunteer Application in advance.
