    Description

Exciting volunteer opportunity at a Tacoma non-profit who helps others through education and service, prevents HIV infection, assists persons affected by HIV/AIDS, addresses related health problems, and combats associated stigma and discrimination.

    DESCRIPTION FOR FOOD BANK

Every week this non-profit provides around 720 pounds of food to individuals living with HIV. Our food pantry fills critical nutritional needs that are hard to meet with traditional food pantries and our volunteers are vital to keeping our food pantry open each week.

THURSDAY AM Food Pantry Shopper Assistant

Long term, weekly volunteer for Thursday mornings from 8:30 am to 11:30 am to assist our clients with their food pantry shopping.

This volunteer would work with food program staff to greet clients and then guide them through the food pantry to make their food selections. The shopper assistant will primarily assist clients by indicating which items clients can select from, reaching and moving items for clients, placing items in client’s shopping bag, answering questions about food items, and in some cases holding and carrying food bags for clients. The volunteer food pantry shopper assistant will also assist with food pantry set up before clients arrive. This will include moving refrigerated and frozen food items from fridge/freezer into the food pantry room, moving and organizing food within the food pantry room, and filling food bag requests for clients with accommodations. Volunteers must be able to lift up to 25 pounds unassisted.

WEDNESDAY PM Food Pantry Set-Up Assistant

Long term, weekly volunteer for Wednesday afternoons from 1:30 pm to 4:00 pm for food pantry set up.

Assist in unloading food delivery truck and get the pantry set up for client shopping the following day. Set up will include lifting boxes, unpacking boxes, breaking down the boxes for recycling, sorting and organizing food on the shelves and filling food bag orders for clients who need delivery accommodations. Volunteer must be able to lift up to 25 pounds unassisted.
