    About the Food Assistance (Grab & Go) Program

    The Grab & Go Food Program provides prepared lunches and other basic food support to individuals experiencing homelessness, food insecurity, and other forms of hardship in the Boston area. The program depends on a committed team of volunteers who prepare, organize, and distribute meals in a respectful and welcoming way.

    Position Summary

    A Faith That Does Justice seeks a Volunteer Director for the Food Assistance (Grab & Go) Program to lead and coordinate the volunteer team responsible for weekly meal preparation and distribution.

    This is a hands-on volunteer leadership role for someone who is organized, dependable, comfortable working with volunteers, and committed to serving people experiencing homelessness and food insecurity. The Volunteer Director will help ensure that each weekly distribution is well staffed, well organized, and carried out in a manner consistent with the mission and values of A Faith That Does Justice.

    Key Responsibilities

    Volunteer Coordination

    • Recruit, welcome, train, schedule, and support volunteers for the Grab & Go Food Program.
    • Ensure that each weekly shift has adequate volunteer coverage for food preparation, setup, distribution, and cleanup.
    • Communicate regularly with volunteers about schedules, expectations, procedures, and program needs.
    • Help create a positive, respectful, and reliable volunteer culture.
    • Recognize and appreciate volunteer contributions.

    Program Operations

    • Oversee the weekly operation of the Grab & Go Food Program in coordination with A Faith That Does Justice leadership.
    • Help ensure that meals are prepared, packed, and distributed on time.
    • Monitor supplies and identify food, packaging, and other resource needs.
    • Support safe, orderly, and efficient program procedures.
    • Help identify practical improvements to strengthen the program over time.

    Community and Partner Relationships

    • Work respectfully with host sites, community partners, donors, and other supporters.
    • Help maintain strong relationships with organizations and individuals who support the program.
    • Identify opportunities to expand volunteer participation, food donations, or other forms of program support.

    Communication and Reporting

    • Communicate program needs, volunteer updates, and operational issues to A Faith That Does Justice leadership.
    • Help track basic program information, such as volunteer participation, meals prepared, meals distributed, and recurring supply needs.
    • Support storytelling and communication about the program’s impact when helpful.

    Desired Qualifications

    • Experience coordinating volunteers, managing a program, or leading a small team.
    • Strong organizational and follow-through skills.
    • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Comfort working with people from diverse backgrounds.
    • Ability to remain calm, flexible, and practical when needs change.
    • Interest in issues related to homelessness, food insecurity, poverty, and social justice.
    • Commitment to treating every person with dignity and respect.
    • Prior nonprofit, faith-based, food assistance, or community service experience is helpful but not required.
