    Description

Friends of Guest House is seeking female mentors and female tutors to engage with residents during their 6 month transitional period after incarceration (for nonviolent crimes). In northern Virginia 40% of women who come out of jail or prison return behind bars within two years. For women who successfully complete the reentry program at Guest House that number drops to 15%. The key difference is reentry support. The women living at Guest House have made a conscious decision to change their lives for the better, but that can be a daunting and challenging feat to tackle. Guest House provides a web of support with services and dedicated staff members. Mentors and tutors add additional support through fostering a meaningful and productive relationship with an individual woman during her 6 month stay. Mentors at Guest House are compassionate and dedicated women who volunteer an average of 1-2 hours a week. Tutors can have an education background or are willing to learn about the current process to acquire a GED.
