South African Film Festival Volunteer Ambassador

Are you connected to the South African community in the United States? Passionate about film, culture, and education? Help us grow the U.S. audience for the South African Film Festival (SAFF) and expand its impact.

Who We Are:

Education without Borders (EwB) is a Canadian-based non-profit organization supporting educational programs in South Africa and Zimbabwe, and Indigenous programs in Canada.

Our flagship fundraising event is the annual South African Film Festival (SAFF), streaming across Canada and the USA each November. The festival presents powerful feature films, documentaries, and shorts that explore South African culture, history, and social justice. All proceeds support EwB’s education programs.

In 2026, SAFF will celebrate its 16th festival in Canada and 6th in the USA. While the festival streams in both countries, we are seeking to significantly grow our U.S. audience and visibility.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a U.S.-based Volunteer Ambassador who understands the South African diaspora and broader cultural communities across the United States. This role focuses on community outreach, partnerships, and audience development to increase awareness, ticket sales, and engagement in the U.S.

Responsibilities

The Volunteer Ambassador will:

• Promote SAFF within South African diaspora communities in the U.S.
• Develop relationships with South African-owned or affiliated businesses
• Identify and connect with community groups, cultural organizations, alumni networks, churches, and business associations
• Promote SAFF through community newsletters, WhatsApp groups, social media, and local events
• Identify opportunities for cross-promotion with U.S.- based organizations
• Support outreach campaigns in the months leading up to the November festival
• Provide insight into U.S. audience behaviour and marketing strategies

You Bring

• Connections within the South African community in the U.S. (or experience building community networks)
• Comfort with outreach and relationship-building
• Understanding of how to reach audiences through online platforms and community channels
• Entrepreneurial mindset and self-motivation
• Passion for film, education, and social impact

Bonus if you have:

• Event promotion experience
• Business or sponsorship connections
• Experience with diaspora engagement

Format:

• This is a remote volunteer opportunity.
