    Description

Help Elementary Students Grow Through One‑on‑One & Small‑Group Support

Norfolk County RSVP invites adults age 55 and older to support local elementary school students through our Elementary School Tutoring Program. Volunteers assist teachers by providing targeted one‑on‑one or small‑group support to students who would benefit from extra help—most often in reading or math.

No teaching experience is required. We welcome volunteers with a wide range of backgrounds, life experiences, and interests who want to make a meaningful difference in the lives of K–5 students.

    What You’ll Do

As an Elementary School Volunteer Tutor, you will:

    • Support students with reading or math skills during the school day
    • Work individually or with small groups based on teacher direction
    • Provide encouragement and help build confidence and academic skills
    • (Where available) support classroom activities in arts & crafts, music, science, or library settings
    • Become a friendly, reliable presence in a K–5 classroom community

    Participating Communities

Elementary school placements are currently available in:

    • Dedham
    • Walpole
    • Stoughton
    • Weymouth

We match volunteers with schools based on location, interests, and availability to ensure a positive and supportive placement.

    Time Commitment

    • 1–1.5 hours per week
    • Commitment runs through the school year

    Training & Support

    All volunteers receive:

    • Program training and orientation

    • Support from host teachers and school partners

    Who Should Apply

This role is perfect for volunteers who:

    • Enjoy working with children
    • Are patient, encouraging, and reliable
    • Want a short, weekly commitment with big impact
    • Are excited to support education in their community
