Academy of Hope Adult Public Charter School (AoH) is seeking volunteers to provide tutoring, academic support, and Study Hall assistance to adult learners during the 2026–27 school year.
AoH volunteers help learners strengthen their academic skills, build confidence, and make progress toward their education and career goals—supporting greater opportunity and economic mobility for adults in the Washington, DC community.
Volunteers may work one-on-one or with small groups and support learners in areas such as reading, writing, math, digital skills, social studies, science, and other academic or program needs.
Volunteer Responsibilities
Depending on current program needs, volunteers may:
- Provide one-on-one or small-group tutoring
- Assist learners during Study Hall and independent learning
- Reinforce academic skills and concepts
- Support teacher-guided learning activities
- Encourage learners as they work toward their education and career goals
What We’re Looking For
We welcome volunteers who are:
- Committed to supporting adult learners
- Patient, dependable, and encouraging
- Comfortable working with learners from diverse backgrounds and experiences
- Able to support at least one academic or skill area
- Willing to complete Academy of Hope’s volunteer onboarding process
Professional teaching experience is not required for every opportunity. Volunteer placement is based on current program needs, volunteer readiness, schedule fit, and areas of interest or expertise.
