The Story:
The American Transplant Foundation internship program aims to offer meaningful experience for individuals through the practical application of learned skills and concepts. All internships are unpaid and designed to enhance one’s personal and professional development while contributing to the Foundation’s overall success.
Since 2016, we have had over 60 amazing individuals participate in our internship program. All of these interns have found great success in their careers, landing positions all across the world, even one of them being an events manager in Australia!

We are located in downtown Denver within minutes of public transit, 16th street mall ride, and the light rail. Our interns enjoy a collaborative team environment, challenging assignments, daily kombucha, gym access, and most importantly, an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of transplant patients and their families.

Our Patient Relations Intern will gain professional and personal communication skills through patient and medical center outreach. They will work directly with our Patient Assistance and 1+1=LIFE Mentorship Programs, allowing them to speak directly to transplant center staff as well as one-on-one with patients. The Patient Relations Intern will learn about individual transplant journeys, their experience with our foundation as well determine how we can better serve the transplant community. They will also get to exercise their creativity by developing strategies to maximize use of patient testimonials. This internship is a great opportunity to increase experience and improve an array of skills!
Digital Marketing/ Communications Intern
Our Digital Marketing Intern will hone their skills in inbound marketing, content marketing and storytelling to help address one of the most critical issues in healthcare – lack of organs available for transplantation. This unpaid internship is a great opportunity to enhance marketing skills applicable in both the for-profit and non-profit sectors, while contributing to meaningful healthcare change.
Our Events Intern will gain event management and communication skills through the planning and implementation of events. They will also have the opportunity to exercise their creativity in the development of marketing and promotional materials, as well through social media management and website. Finally, they will play a role in the strategic development of various fundraising and awareness outreach campaigns.
Our Prospect Development Intern will gain professional experience in multiple areas of fundraising. They will have the opportunity to improve their skills in both grant research and proposal composition. They will also have the chance to compile program and initiative data information, and develop strategies on how to effectively utilize the information in the solicitation of potential donors. Finally, the Prospect Development Intern will get to exercise their creativity by researching crowdfunding platforms, fundraising, event planning, and assisting with campaign development.
Our Graphic and Web Design Intern will gain real-world portfolio-building experience by creating compelling, visual content for social media platforms and campaigns for the Foundation’s social media accounts. You will also create infographics that visually tell the story of ATF, our work and lifesaving outcomes, update our national website with current graphics and statistics, and help design and revise print and online marketing materials.
