Description
The Hospice Volunteer serves as an essential member of the interdisciplinary hospice team. By providing regular, non-medical companionship and respite care, the volunteer enhances the quality of life for patients facing terminal illnesses and offers crucial emotional support to their families and caregivers.
Provide Presence: Sit quietly bedside, offer a listening ear, hold hands, or engage in meaningful conversations based on patient comfort.
Social Engagement: Read books, play music, watch favorite movies, work on puzzles, or complete light crafts with the patient.
Document Life Legacies: Assist patients in writing down memories, dictating letters, or compiling photo journals for their families.
Relieve Caregivers: Remain with the patient for 2 to 4 hours per visit so family members can run errands, attend doctor visits, or take a nap.
Emotional Comfort: Offer a compassionate, non-judgmental presence to families experiencing caregiver burnout or active grief.
Assemble Packets: Put together the physical folders given to new patients, including consent forms, rights documents, and educational booklets.
Scan Documents: Convert paper medical charts, signatures, and physician orders into electronic health record (EHR) systems.
Audit Files: Double-check discharged patient files to ensure all required signatures are present before final archiving.

Office & Administrative Volunteers will report to the office location, otherwise they will be assigned patients in the metroplex.
