Board Member

Responsibilities and Duties

Board members of Jacaranda Rising play an important role in supporting the organization’s mission to empower transition-age young adults (ages 18–24) who are exiting foster care and/or experiencing homelessness. Board members are expected to:

• Commit to a two-year term
• Attend one board meeting each month (approximately 1–1½ hours; meetings are paused during months when board members are busier--aka holiday and summer months)
• Provide guidance, professional insight, and support to the Executive Director throughout the term, as needed
• Serve as ambassadors for Jacaranda Rising within the community
• Attend two annual fundraising events
• Contribute ideas, connections, and resources that help strengthen programs and organizational growth

Qualifications

Jacaranda Rising is seeking compassionate, community-minded individuals who are passionate about supporting young adults as they transition into independent adulthood. Ideal board members may have:

• Lived experience related to foster care, housing instability, or overcoming adversity
• A strong passion for serving young adults exiting foster care or experiencing homelessness
• Experience in business, nonprofit leadership, education/teaching, social work, fundraising, marketing, community outreach, or related fields
• A collaborative spirit and willingness to share ideas and expertise
• A commitment to helping Jacaranda Rising create opportunities, stability, and supportive relationships for young adults in Los Angeles County

Previous board experience is welcome but not required. We value diverse perspectives, lived experiences, and individuals who are eager to make a meaningful impact in the lives of young people.
