    Description

Volunteers in the field have big hearts and good common sense. Field volunteers visit with hospice clients in their homes ( family residences or nursing facilities) to provide companionship and give the caregivers some respite. Volunteers chat, play card games, watch television, make a light meal. Volunteers with musical abilities sometimes sing and play instruments. Others work on crafts or pursue life review. Still others help their patients with correspondence.

Hospice volunteers receive training, complete background checks, and are required to take a TB test and be vaccinated against the flu, measles, mumps and rubella. Volunteers who don't get a flu vaccination may visit patients from April thru November.
