    Description

A hospice patient companion volunteer is someone who provides non-medical, compassionate support to people receiving hospice care, typically near the end of life. Their primary role is to offer presence, comfort, and emotional support to patients and sometimes their families.

    What They Do:

    • Sit with patients who are lonely or anxious
    • Listen to life stories and memories
    • Read aloud (books, scripture, newspapers)
    • Play music or share quiet activities
    • Offer gentle conversation or simply sit in silence
    • Provide respite for family caregivers by staying with the patient
    • Write letters or help with small personal tasks

They do not provide medical care, administer medications, or perform clinical duties.

This opportunity is specific for people that can serve in and around Berne, Bluffton, and Decatur Indiana.
