Make a difference in just 3 hours a week!
Sunrise Day Camp – South Florida, a program of the David Posnack JCC, is seeking energetic, bilingual volunteers to bring the magic of summer camp to children struggling with cancer at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital.
What is Sunrise on Wheels?
Our volunteers wheel a signature "Rainbow Trunk" filled with toys, games, and art supplies directly into the Pediatric Oncology units. We transform a scary hospital environment into a place of laughter and play.
What You Will Do:
- Play Games: Engage children in classic favorites like Uno, Connect 4, Trouble, and Spot It.
- Get Creative: Lead arts and crafts projects using stickers, paints, and Rainbow Loom.
- Bring Comfort: Provide a "camp day" experience to children awaiting treatment, offering them a much-needed distraction from their medical reality.
Why We Need You:
We urgently need bilingual volunteers who can speak both Spanish and English.
- Spanish: To connect comfortably with our many Spanish-speaking patients and parents.
- English: To communicate effectively with hospital staff and our Sunrise on Wheels team leaders.
Commitment:
- When: Wednesdays from 12:00 PM – 3:00 PM. You MUST be able to volunteer on Wednesdays for this entire time period.
- Where: Nicklaus Children's Hospital (near Coral Gables/West Miami). 3100 SW 62nd Ave, Miami, FL 33155
- Consistency: We ask for a consistent weekly commitment to build trust with the children.
Requirements:
- Must be fluent in both Spanish and English.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Must have your own vehicle and live within a 30-minute drive of the hospital (to ensure reliability).
- Must pass a background check and complete hospital orientation (details provided upon application).
About Us:
Sunrise Day Camp is the world’s only dedicated day camp for children with cancer and their siblings, provided completely free of charge. Sunrise on Wheels is our year-round in-hospital program that keeps the camp spirit alive 365 days a year.
