Role Overview
The Director of Family & Learning Engagement serves as the leader responsible for strengthening family engagement, learning partnerships, educational participation, and community connections across MAP's educational initiatives.
This role oversees strategies that help families become active partners in children's learning and development while creating opportunities for greater engagement in literacy, education, mentorship, and enrichment programs.
Working closely with PromiseRooted, PromiseConnects, PromisePrograms, PromisePeople, and educational leaders, the Director helps build meaningful relationships between families, students, mentors, and the organization.
The ideal candidate is passionate about family engagement, educational equity, relationship-building, and creating inclusive learning communities.
Key Responsibilities
Family Engagement Strategy
- Develop and lead MAP's family engagement strategy
- Establish goals and priorities for family participation and partnership
- Strengthen relationships between families and educational initiatives
- Promote family-centered and culturally responsive engagement practices
- Support continuous improvement of engagement efforts
Family Learning Partnerships
- Develop opportunities that encourage family involvement in learning
- Support literacy, educational, and enrichment activities for families
- Promote family participation in student success initiatives
- Create resources that help families support learning at home
- Strengthen connections between learning and family engagement
Community & Relationship Building
- Foster welcoming and inclusive learning communities
- Support family outreach and relationship-building efforts
- Promote trust, communication, and collaboration with families
- Strengthen engagement among students, caregivers, mentors, and educators
- Support community-building initiatives
Educational Engagement Initiatives
- Develop programs that increase participation in educational opportunities
- Support student engagement through family partnership strategies
- Promote attendance, participation, and learning continuity
- Help identify barriers to engagement and participation
- Develop solutions that strengthen access and inclusion
Resource Development & Communication
- Create family engagement resources, guides, and educational materials
- Support communication strategies that strengthen family participation
- Promote awareness of educational opportunities and services
- Ensure information remains accessible and family-friendly
- Strengthen engagement through effective communication practices
Cross-Divisional Collaboration
- Partner with PromiseRooted and PromiseConnects on family engagement initiatives
- Collaborate with PromisePrograms on student and family support strategies
- Support PromisePages literacy and family reading initiatives
- Work with PromisePeople on volunteer and mentor engagement efforts
- Align family engagement efforts with organizational priorities

- Experience in education, family engagement, community engagement, youth development, social work, counseling, nonprofit leadership, or related fields
- Strong relationship-building and communication skills
- Experience working with children, families, and communities
- Understanding of educational equity and family partnership practices
- Strong organizational and project management abilities
- Passion for family engagement, education, and youth success

Leadership Participation
The Director of Family & Learning Engagement is expected to:

Volunteer Expectations
- Approximately 5–10 hours per week
- Minimum 6-month commitment required
