ET Global Volunteer Program: Remote Volunteer — AI & Data Engineer
Empower Tamizhagam NGO Remote — volunteers can be based anywhere in the world. Empower Tamizhagam has worked on livelihoods and poverty alleviation in Tamil Nadu, South India for 15 years, through MSME support, policy work, and government program access.
The Role
Help build our zero-cost Proof of Concept (POC). You will build automated data ingestion scripts, assemble a React frontend dashboard, and connect a Python backend to free LLM frameworks.
Key Responsibilities
- Data Scraping & Ingestion: Build automated Python scrapers to extract text from unstructured government PDFs, websites, and government orders (GOs).
- Backend Integration: Connect Python (FastAPI) to the free Gemini 1.5 Flash API via Google AI Studio.
- Database Management: Maintain a lightweight local SQLite database tracking both business compliance and citizen welfare schemes.
- Frontend Assembly: Build accessible user interfaces in React 18, TypeScript, and Tailwind CSS.
- RAG Architecture: Implement Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) to ensure 100% factual policy matches.
Technical Qualifications
- Proficiency in Python 3.x and web scraping libraries (e.g., BeautifulSoup, Playwright, or PyPDF).
- Experience with FastAPI (or Django) and relational databases (SQLite).
- Experience with React 18, TypeScript, and Tailwind CSS.
- Familiarity with data privacy concepts (e.g., India's DPDP Act compliance).
