    Habitat for Humanity of Long Island is looking for a volunteer with experience in mortgage lending, loan processing, or financial/credit counseling services to help review homeowner applications.

    If you understand credit, income, and financial readiness—and have a heart for helping others—this is a powerful way to give back.

    Habitat for Humanity of Long Island is seeking experienced professionals in mortgage lending, loan processing, banking, financial coaching, and credit counseling to support hardworking families on their journey toward affordable homeownership.

    As a volunteer, you will use your expertise to help prospective Habitat homeowners understand the financial responsibilities of purchasing a home, strengthen their financial readiness, and navigate various aspects of the homebuying process. Your guidance can have a lasting impact on families working to achieve stability, independence, and generational wealth through homeownership.

    Volunteer Responsibilities

    Depending on your experience and availability, responsibilities may include:

    • Provide financial education and budgeting guidance to prospective homeowners
    • Assist families in understanding mortgage lending concepts and the homebuying process
    • Review financial documents and help prepare applicants for loan qualification requirements
    • Offer credit counseling and strategies for improving credit scores
    • Support Habitat staff with loan processing, document organization, and mortgage-related administrative tasks
    • Participate in homeownership education workshops and financial literacy programs
    • Help families develop savings plans and financial goals
    • Share industry knowledge and best practices with Habitat staff and volunteers

    Qualifications

    Ideal candidates may have experience in:

    • Mortgage lending
    • Loan processing or underwriting
    • Banking or financial services
    • Credit counseling
    • Financial planning
    • Consumer lending
    • Housing counseling
    • Real estate finance

    Required qualifications:

    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive financial information responsibly
    • Commitment to Habitat for Humanity's mission of providing affordable homeownership opportunities
    • Professional experience in a related financial field
