    Description

    AMERICAN RED CROSS DISASTER CYCLE SERVICES (DCS)

    DUTY OFFICER

    Support local disaster responses from your home!

    • Liaison with local authorities by phone and computer.
    • Dispatch and support Red Cross disaster responders.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Process requests from local authorities, determining if Red Cross action is warranted based on event triggers (i.e., size, scope, type of event). Training provided, along with back-up support.
    • Dispatch disaster response teams & resources and provide remote support.
    • Complete and share documentation.
    • Attend regularly scheduled meetings and stay current on all training.
    • Additional related duties as discussed with supervisor.

    Commitment:

    • Virtual regional position using home phone and Internet covering Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties. May work from Red Cross office if preferred.
    • Three customizable, on-call, 4-hour shifts per month, which you schedule. If nothing happens during your window of availability (most of the time), go about your normal day. If there is an event, the expectation is you can put aside what you are doing to support the disaster response. Volunteers available for overnight shifts (Mindnight-4AM; 4-8AM) needed!

    What makes you a great fit!

    • Minimum age 18.
    • Access to reliable smartphone, computer, and Internet with ability to send/receive text messages.
    • Willingness to use/learn technology required for event documentation and support.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to read, write, and follow instructions in English.
    • Proficient in prioritizing multiple tasks in complex, rapidly changing and stressful situations.
    • Comfortable working independently.
