    Description

Support grieving kids, teens & young adults as a volunteer Facilitator, in-person and online

    About Our Groups

Josie's Place / Sunset Youth Services Grief Circles offers no-cost, peer-based support groups to children, teens, young adults, and their parents/caregivers in the SF Bay Area, both virtually and in-person with an emphasis on in-person. These groups meet either 2x monthly on a year-round basis or once a week for a set number of weeks. Facilitators companion young people through their unique experiences of grief, prioritizing connection and validation. A typical group includes discussion, art activities, and social games.

What is your relationship to grief?

We are looking for trainees interested in joining a team of facilitators in our children's, teen, young adult, and parent/caregivers' groups. Volunteer facilitators hold space for and companion grieving young people and their caregivers.

    We're looking for:

    • Folks who have experience working with children and/or teens, experience with death and grief, and/or sincere interest in this work.
    • Male-identifying people and people from historically marginalized communities and/or who are fluent in Spanish are encouraged to apply. We’re committed to building a volunteer community that reflects the diversity of the families we serve.
    • Applicants must be willing to make a minimum of a 1-year commitment, and longer is desired.

    Upcoming Training - January 2026

Every facilitator commits to participation in an interactive, dynamic 20-hr Facilitator Training. Based on the Dougy Center (dougy.org) Model, the goal of the Facilitator Training is to prepare trainees to hold supportive space for bereaved youth and their caregivers. Please see the upcoming training dates below. Applicants should be able to commit to all four dates with limited exceptions.
